Test Point Connection MediaTek MTK

Released in 13 Dec 2025

Test Point Connection Method

Test Point is a hardware-based connection method used to force a device into Bootrom (BROM) or Preloader mode when standard button combinations are not supported or blocked.

This method is mainly required on certain MediaTek (MTK) devices where software-based access to Bootrom mode is restricted.

When Is Test Point Required?

Test Point is typically used when:

  • Bootrom mode cannot be accessed using buttons

  • The device has restricted or closed Bootrom access

  • Preloader connection is not detected automatically

  • Servicing Samsung MTK devices that do not support button-based BROM entry

How Does Test Point Work?

By shorting specific test point pads on the device’s motherboard while connecting the phone to a computer via USB, the chipset is forced into a low-level service mode. This allows the software to establish a direct connection with the device.

⚠️ Test Point requires opening the device and should be performed carefully to avoid hardware damage.

Important Notes

  • Test Point locations vary by brand and model

  • Incorrect shorting may cause hardware damage

  • This method is recommended for advanced users or technicians

  • Always disconnect the battery (if required) before performing the procedure

Summary

The Test Point method provides a reliable way to access Bootrom or Preloader mode on restricted MTK devices when other connection methods are unavailable. It is a powerful solution for advanced servicing scenarios but must be used with caution.
