Test Point Connection Method

Test Point is a hardware-based connection method used to force a device into Bootrom (BROM) or Preloader mode when standard button combinations are not supported or blocked.

This method is mainly required on certain MediaTek (MTK) devices where software-based access to Bootrom mode is restricted.

When Is Test Point Required?

Test Point is typically used when:

• Bootrom mode cannot be accessed using buttons

• The device has restricted or closed Bootrom access

• Preloader connection is not detected automatically

• Servicing Samsung MTK devices that do not support button-based BROM entry

How Does Test Point Work?

By shorting specific test point pads on the device’s motherboard while connecting the phone to a computer via USB, the chipset is forced into a low-level service mode. This allows the software to establish a direct connection with the device.
