Bootrom mode, commonly referred to as BROM, is a low-level connection state available on devices powered by MediaTek (MTK) chipsets. This mode is activated before the operating system loads and allows direct communication with the device’s hardware.
Bootrom is chipset-based rather than brand-specific, which means any device using an MTK chipset can technically support this mode.
Because MediaTek chipsets are used across many manufacturers, there is no single universal method to enter Bootrom or Preloader mode. The exact connection process depends on the device brand and model.
On many Samsung devices equipped with MTK chipsets, accessing Bootrom traditionally requires a test point. Since this method is inconvenient, an alternative solution is available that allows Samsung MTK devices to enter BROM mode without using a test point.
On most devices from these brands, Bootrom or Preloader mode can be accessed using hardware button combinations:
Power off the device completely
Press and hold Volume Up or Volume Down (varies by model)
While holding the button, connect the device to the computer using a USB cable

When a device is connected in Bootrom or Preloader mode, multiple advanced service operations become available. These modes provide low-level access to MTK-based devices and support a wide range of procedures.
Below are just a few examples:
FRP removal
Reading basic device information (Get Info)
Security and lock-related service operations
Software repair and recovery procedures
Various brand- and model-specific functions
Supported features may vary depending on the device, chipset, and software version.
With recent security updates, some manufacturers have restricted access to Bootrom mode. In such cases, Preloader mode is used as an alternative.
Preloader mode supports the same operations as Bootrom mode, so there is no functional disadvantage. When required, the software will prompt you to reconnect the device at the correct moment to establish a Preloader connection.
Bootrom / Preloader mode supports a wide range of devices powered by MediaTek (MTK) chipsets. This includes popular brands such as Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, ZTE, and others. Device support may vary depending on model and software version.
Bootrom and Preloader modes provide deep-level access to MediaTek-based devices, enabling essential repair, recovery, and service operations. Even when Bootrom access is restricted, Preloader mode ensures continued device servicing without limitations.
