MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) is a software-based connection method that allows communication with an Android device while the operating system is running.
In Samsung devices running Android 16, this method is also used in a controlled manner to enable service-level communication with repair tools, including scenarios related to FRP management.
In this Android version, Samsung exposes specific user-level system interfaces through MTP that can be utilized by compatible service tools for authorized software servicing operations.
The MTP connection method is typically used in the following scenarios:
The device boots normally into Android
The device is at the Setup Wizard stage after a reset
FRP is active and traditional methods (ADB / Download Mode) are unavailable
The repair tool supports the Samsung Android 16 MTP interface
A non-invasive connection method is preferred
Hardware-level methods such as Test Point are not required or not recommended
On Samsung Android 16 devices, when the phone is connected to a computer via USB, an enhanced MTP interface is initialized at the operating system level.
This interface allows compatible repair tools to:
Detect the device and its security state
Communicate with limited system services
Perform controlled software service operations related to FRP handling
Although the connection remains at the OS level, it is more structured and service-oriented compared to older Android versions.
📌 Depending on the device model and security patch level, MTP communication may be available even while the device is locked or during the Setup Wizard stage.
This method applies specifically to Samsung devices running Android 16
A repair tool with Android 16 MTP support is required
Access level is limited and controlled by the system
No Bootrom, Preloader, or Test Point access is involved
Device model and security patch level affect availability
Proper USB drivers and a stable connection are essential
Does not provide full low-level hardware access
Cannot be used on powered-off or bootlooping devices
Applicable only to specific software servicing scenarios
Not a replacement for Bootrom, Preloader, or Test Point methods
On Samsung Android 16, the MTP connection method is no longer limited to basic file transfer. It also serves as a controlled service communication channel for compatible repair tools in specific scenarios, including devices with active FRP.
This approach enables software-level servicing without requiring hardware-based access methods, reducing risk while maintaining system security.
However, MTP remains a limited-access method and is intended only for supported servicing use cases.
